Tropics Derma Research & Training Institute, TDRTI has sent forth its second batch of trainees into the professional world.
This was in special ceremony organised in the nation’s capital city Yaounde on July 19. The colourful event was graced by the presence of state dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps, health and beauty industry experts as well as families and friends who came out to cheer for the graduates.

The graduates, 25 in number, some culled from related medical fields expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the institute and pledged to apply the acquired skills in advancing solutions oriented research and innovations in medical aesthetics in the tropics.
They also promised to be ambassadors of TDRTI with the goal to raise awareness and encourage more individuals to be pursue training in this specialised field.
One of the laureates Eyong Joshua, pointed out that he embarked on the training because there are few qualified practitioners.
“Understanding and caring for black skin is crucial. It will also help reduce the prevalence of skin bleeching,” Eyong underscored.
On her part, Rachel Tandifor one of the graduates revealed she closed her business institute when she started her training because she realised she was not qualified enough and lacked the necessary skills to cater to the needs of her clients with damaged skin.
“I realized that I was unable to really help people who came with skin problems so I decided to undergo this prestigious training,”
Tandifor said.
TDTRI founder offers word of encouragement
The founder of Tropics Derma Training & Research Institute, Dr. Edith Forkwa Gibson urged the laureates to continue championing research and innovation on best products and practices suitable for ebony skin tones. While commending the laureates, she wished them well as they go on to begin their careers in medical aesthetics.
“I have no doubt that our graduates will be highly successful in their careers, thanks to the knowledge and skills they have acquired. This graduation is a symbol of the hard work, achievement and bright future that awaits them as they embark on their professional careers,” Dr. Gibson stated.
She further expressed satisfaction with the work that TDTRI has achieved so far. According to her, the institute was created as a means to get more Africans in the research and care for ebony skin. TDTRI specialises in skin care practices adapted to tropical climates, addressing challenges such as high pigmentation, intense sunlight, acne, sun burn among others.
In addition to receiving their diplomas, some laureates also received honorary awards.
